Burkina Faso, Chad forge strategic mining partnership

Must read

Burkina Faso and Chad have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to enhance cooperation in the fields of mining and geology, according to Burkina Faso’s Ministry of Energy, Mines and Quarries.

The agreement was formalized in Ouagadougou by Burkina Faso’s Minister of Mines, Yacouba Zabré Gouba, and Chad’s Minister of Mines, Ndolenodji Alixe Naïmbaye. This MoU marks a significant step in advancing South-South cooperation, aiming to strengthen the exchange of technical expertise and promote modernization in mining operations between the two countries.

Mining code

Chad, currently in the process of revising its mining code, stands to benefit from Burkina Faso’s experience in this domain. Burkina Faso recently overhauled its mining legislation with the adoption of a new mining law in July 2024, positioning itself as a model for regulatory reform in the sector.

In a further move to deepen collaboration, Chadian authorities have invited Burkinabe mining companies to take part in the country’s inaugural International Mining and Quarries Exhibition, scheduled for November 6–8, 2025. This event is expected to foster new partnerships and investment opportunities, reinforcing the cooperative momentum between the two nations.
